… The P.A. People runs event comms for this iconic event!

A field of 80,000 runners waiting to start the 2016 Sun-Herald City2Surf were queued in Park, College and Macquarie streets waiting for their start time. The P.A. People once again supplied and installed the start line PA system to allow the Fairfax special events team to coordinate the massive undertaking of getting the event underway safely and on time. The PA ran along College St down to Macquarie St between Oxford and Philip Streets. The components covered Park St and into William St.

This year The Veronicas provided a DJ performance at the start line in the middle of William St on top of a scaffold structure as the runners commenced the race. We supplied a separate PA off the scaffolding for extra reinforcement as the runners passed by.

Part of the solution was to install IP links to deliver the audio signal from control in Cook + Phillip Park, to the amp racks in Hyde Park. Additional links to Macquarie St and to the DJ tower, set in the middle of William Street, were all Dante over fibre.

The Event Communications team utilised a Yamaha Dante audio networking solution. Audio for the event was distributed to several Yamaha Rio1608-D Dante 16×8 Stage Boxes, strategically located throughout Hyde Park and along Macquarie St.  These were linked via several kilometres of fibre optic cables to help distribute in excess of sixty loudspeakers.

“I have used The P.A. People for the finish line audio systems (9 in total) at the City2Surf for the 5 years I’ve been involved with the event. I have always found them a pleasure to work with, always available for site visits, providing solutions to challenges that present and delivering a superb service that matches the needs of the event. I would strongly recommend them to any event provider out there” Daniel Toscano, Event Manager – Fairfax Events

At the Finish Line, The P.A. People were once again present to help the runners finish the Event, then to guide them around Bondi to claim their belongings or to find a bus back home. Ten separate PA systems were installed throughout Bondi, including the finish shute. This year the P.A. People also provided an emergency paging system which linked all the separate PA systems together.

2016 also saw the inclusion at Bondi of a band stage next to the super screen, where runners could stop to catch their breath before catching the bus home.
