The P.A. People are no strangers to large scale public events, and in May 2022 the team were called upon to create what is possibly one of the world’s largest temporary event communications networks and a significant audio system in Cockle Bay for Sydney’s iconic Vivid Sydney festival.
Vivid Sydney is the largest festival of Light, Music and Ideas in the Southern Hemisphere, transforming Sydney’s CBD into a fusion of creativity, innovation and technology for 23-nights, from 27 May to 18 June 2022. New Product Announcements for Integrate Show
“Key to enhancing the capability of The P.A. People’s new Venue Engineering Team has been to continue to develop the TheatreQuip product portfolio and to secure a number of significant international agencies for the distribution of specialised theatrical products” said Chris Dodds, Managing Director of The P.A. People.
At the Integrate tradeshow in August, The P.A. People will display a range of specialist AV products, including media splitters from Audio Press Box, rigging accessories by Teqsas, and test equipment from Eclipse Broadcast, CableJog, Nixer and CTP Systems. In addition, the Company has secured distribution rights for the range of specialist screens, fabrics and flooring products from industry leader Gerriets of Germany.
“Not only will we be displaying a number of exciting new TheatreQuip products at the show, but we will also be announcing a number of very significant partnerships over the next couple of weeks in the leadup to Integrate” Chris continued. “We are very excited that some of the industry’s most well respected and recognised vendors have chosen to partner with The P.A. New Event Engineering team gaining significant traction
Our new Venue Engineering team has been busy through its initial six months, designing and manufacturing our first full counterweight system for the refurbished Sutherland Entertainment Centre – due for completion later this year; track drapes and lighting bars for the renovated Bondi Pavilion, and motorised flying systems for Canberra Grammar and Glenmore Park High Schools.
Meanwhile we are gratified to have been awarded the contract to supply a full theatrical stage fit-out for Trinity Grammar School in South Australia. The project builds on the experience of our team to provide a motorised flying system, a large six-actuator Orchestra lift, and a comprehensive adjustable acoustic shell and reflector system to enable the new facility to be configured to provide the appropriate acoustics for either theatrical or musical performances.
We have also been called on to provide a number of elements at the new Sydney Modern building at the Art Gallery of NSW. Gallery 8 features an installation of Wahlberg DMX-controlled motorised track and fittings, two spaces have been equipped with complex pipe grids for rigging, and the TheatreQuip team have also been busy providing an extensive array of track and drapes.
Sydney’s iconic Hordern Pavilion has received attention from both our Venue Engineering and Installed Systems teams. Recent additions have included a new hearing loop system, and an extensive addition of drapes and track from TheatreQuip.

Event Communications team expands inventory
During the recent pandemic-induced shutdowns, The P.A. People’s Event Communications team has continued to invest in the latest Audio and Communications technology for their rental fleet. Some areas of particular note would be:
Yamaha Rivage PM-5 consoles. In mid-2020, Yamaha expanded the range of their Rivage series large format mixing consoles from the existing PM10 and PM7 surfaces to include the new touch screen based PM5 and the smaller sibling, the PM3. All of the consoles in the PM range share the same DSP platform, the significant difference being the size, layout and functionality of the control surfaces. The P.A. People has invested in two Dante enabled PM-5 surfaces and 144 input x 72 bus x 36 matrix packages which are now available for rental.
Celto CMP10 and Bose AMM series speaker cabinets. The Celto CMP10 speaker cabinet is a high performance 10” coaxial speaker packaged in a compact multifunction birch ply cabinet with an integral mounting yoke. With a European-influenced design, these cabinets are an ideal complement to our new Bose AMM-112 and AMM-108 multipurpose coaxial monitor cabinets and AMS115 sub woofers. This addition of some 80 new speaker cabinets significantly expands our capability in higher performance audio systems and sits well beside our existing investment in Bose ShowMatch arrays and Linea Research amplification.
Communications and Networking. Not to be left out, our Networking inventory also received a significant boost over the last two years. The events team have almost doubled their inventory of 10Gb network switches with new additions from Ruckus / Commscope, have added two 10Gbit and four 1G wireless links, and a new point-to-multipoint link capability with up to 16 separate end points in a system and multi Gigabit capacity.
Two-Way Radios. While The P.A. People first invested in Motorola Digital radios back in 2014, this year we have been able to add significantly to our base infrastructure offering. In addition to our existing Mototrbo IP Site connect System, we can now offer an extensive Linked Capacity Plus trunked offering for larger events requiring extended coverage, multiple sites and many talk groups.
