Bondi Pavilion – iconic heritage building make-over!
An instantly recognisable fixture of Bondi Beach, the Bondi Pavilion, has borne witness to the evolution and impact of this iconic Australian beach. Waverly Council has undertaken a project to upgrade and rejuvenate Bondi Pavilion which is a heritage site in its’ own right.
Project Manager for The P.A. People, Ross Ford, comments: “… we worked with three consultants on various aspects of the project, the most important of which was its heritage listing. This consideration dictated how the project was conceived and executed by all parties. Essentially, this was a ‘dismantle and rebuild’ approach rather than demolish and build anew. Across the site, the team had to ensure that the original fabric of the separate spaces was maintained. This meant that the original building materials – from the flooring to the timberwork – had to be kept intact, and elements such as murals and paintings had to be protected during the course of all works.”
Justin Smith – Contracts Administrator, Buildcorp said of the relationship with The P.A. People; “I would place them in the top tier of contractors that we have worked with on this project. Ross Ford has been across – and often, ahead of – all relevant aspects of the integration and has accommodated the program all the way through.”

TheatreQuip – new ‘Reference’ theatre hoists installed!
The P.A. People has installed the first of its series of new hoists at Glenmore Park High School’s new Performing Arts & Learning Centre in Western Sydney. Following their recent release at the Integrate trade show in Sydney, the TQP-K650/12 balanced drive pile-wind hoist is an example of the new theatre equipment installed at this facility. The new hoists have been meticulously designed to comply with Australian Standards and with the new EN17206 standard “Entertainment Technology – Machinery for stages and other production areas”. “When it comes to safety in hoisting and winching systems, especially those in theatre spaces which invariably require the suspension of loads above people, we regard it as our duty of care to ensure that we follow the most rigorous of standards” commented Andrew Mathieson, Chief Engineer at The P.A. People.
Sports audio & comms for major events!
The last quarter saw the return of several major sporting events to the calendar.
Sydney’s iconic City2Surf kicked off what has turned out to be a busy spring season for the Events department. The team were on site bright and early at both the start and finish lines delivering comms and multiple sound systems. We have been privileged to be a part of this event for many years and it is fantastic to see it running again (pun intended!) after COVID restrictions.
September has been basketball, basketball and more basketball in the State Sports Centre and Qudos Bank Arena, for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. The P.A. People provided wired and wireless Clear-com kit and our Bose Showmatch PA systems for both venues to support GBE with sports presentation, as well as event radios for the Local Organising Committee. Congratulations to the Opals on their Bronze medal achievement!
Both the sound and the communications systems will now transition to support the Sydney Kings and the Sydney Flames through their regular home seasons in both venues.
